Anna-Maria (Ria) Nicholls serves as Chief Diversity Officer as an Executive on Loan to Central Piedmont and plays a key role in helping Central Piedmont shape an institutional vision for equity, diversity, and inclusion. As part of her role, Ria leads Central Piedmont's Talent Acquisition team, developing programs and initiatives to enhance pipeline, recruitment and success of students, faculty and staff from under-represented groups.

Prior to this role Nicholls led learning & Leadership Development for Bank of America. In this role, she is responsible for learning, talent management, talent diversity and succession, performance management, leadership development, organizational development, and organizational effectiveness programs for the company's employees worldwide.

Nicholls served as the bank's Global Head of Learning & Development, where she oversaw Manager Development, learning solutions, curriculum design & development, product delivery, diversity and inclusion learning, strategic Line of Business learning support and regulatory learning.

During her career at Bank of America, Nicholls also served as the bank's Learning & Leadership Development executive for Global Technology & Operations and Staff Support (which included Global Risk Management, the Chief Financial Officer Group, the Chief Administrative Officer Group, Legal, Global Marketing & Corporate Affairs, and Corporate Audit and Credit Review). Additionally, Nicholls also served as the Leadership Development executive for Global Commercial Banking, a $12 billion business at that time that delivers comprehensive financial services to companies with $50 million to $2 billion in revenues. She was accountable for talent management, executive coaching and development, diversity & inclusion and organizational design.

Prior to joining Bank of America in 2005, she was director of People and Organizational Capability at Microsoft Corporation. Prior to Microsoft, Nicholls served as senior director of Organizational Development at First Data Corporation, where she led various enterprise functions and supported the Merchant and Card international businesses.

Nicholls holds a bachelor's degree in organizational communications from The University of Colorado at Boulder and a master's degree in organizational development from the Fielding Graduate University. She is a member of the Organization Development Network and the American Society for Training & Development, and is active in Bank of America's market president network. Nicholls is also an executive sponsor for the Bank of America Parents and Caregivers Employee Network. She resides in Charlotte, N.C., with her family.
