Other Information:
Born at an early age, Kenn Compton spent his formative years in Asheville, North Carolina. Growing up in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, he experienced a rich educational environment which enabled him to graduate from high school in only four years.

Being surrounded by craftsmen, storytellers and folk artists profoundly influenced his creative growth. In only his second year of formal education, he took 1st place in the prestigious Biltmore Elementary School PTA Invitation Competition. That inspired drawing? is now part of the permanent collection of his mother. Other original artwork, remnants of a moderately successful career as a children's book creator, can be found in the collections of Keene State College, Keene, New Hampshire and the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.

Kenn is a 1976 graduate of the School of Design, now College of Design, at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. There he earned a Bachelor of Environmental Design/Product Design/Visual Design Option degree. Or, as it is known by some, a BVD. In the spring of 2006, he received his Masters in Graphic Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

During his many years as a professional designer, Kenn has had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of creative groups in Charlotte, N.C., including several years as the “international logo cop” for Duke Energy, a Fortune 100 Company.

In 2002, Kenn joined the teaching staff of the Advertising + Graphic Design (A+GD) program at Central Piedmont Community College. He has held the role of program chair since 2006 and was named a full professor in 2019.

Kenn has received several awards for his service to students, including Faculty Advisor of the Year and Work-Based Learning Advisor of the Year.

Working with a passionate faculty team, Kenn is dedicated to building the best 2-year design school on the planet, where students have the opportunity to become courageous creative thinkers, insightful visual communicators and perpetually curious people.

Graduates of A+GD are designers, art directors and creative strategists in companies large and small in Charlotte, New York, Bangkok and elsewhere.
